Welcome to GWRRA Ohio District
MEDIC FIRST AID® Page
GWRRA Rider Education has traditionally encouraged members to obtain and maintain
certifications in First Aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). These basic
skills are easily learned, but may make the difference between life and death in
the critical minutes before professional help can arrive.
In 2001, GWRRA first introduced the MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ Program to our members in hopes of providing an
affordable source of vital First Aid and CPR training. GWRRA is a corporate sponsor of the
MEDIC FIRST AID INTERNATIONAL of Eugene, Oregon also commonly referred to as
MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ.
In Region D, the MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ program got it's start when the Region and it's three Districts
(Ohio, Michigan, & Indiana) split four ways the expense of
the purchase of a set of videotapes and manikins. A schedule was created which allowed for the sharing of the
equipment among the three Districts on a rotating basis. Since then volunteers have given of their time to help move
the equipment both within the Districts, and from one District to another. As you can imagine, one set of equipment
used by three Districts gets stretched pretty thin. The individual Districts are beginning to purchase their own sets
of equipment. Allowing the Districts to provide more MEDIC FIRST AID® classes for members.
Since 2001, over 700 members in the District of Ohio have taken advantage of this exciting program.
MEDIC FIRST AID® offers our members a new adventure of training in a Low Stress environment with lots of Hands-on practice
using Real Time Scenarios.
The program also provides use of Excellent Videos and printed materials.
Thanks to this high quality training program our members are making a difference in the world we live in.
MEDIC FIRST AID® Basic 6.0 is a combined CPR/First Aid training program.
MEDIC FIRST AID® brings to the
classes ample hands on practice with classmates and training manikins to develop
knowledge, skill, and confidence. This
program helps students learn how to respond and care for medical emergencies using the Circles of Care Concept
MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ offers these advantages to the students:
* Easy learning, low stress environment. * Lots of confidence building, hands on practice
* Real time scenarios in a variety of settings * Excellent videos and printed materials
Starting with the fall training sessions of 2004, MEDIC FIRST AID 6.0 training classes
will include Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training. There have been numerous
articles written about the widespread availability of AED's. However, there is a shortage
of responders trained in their use. This has cost some lives due to a delay in care.
Now everyone who participates in a MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ class will automatically be trained in the use of
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
The cost for this enhanced MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ
presentation will be $20.00 per student payable in advance.
To schedule a class for your chapter, have the Chapter Director and the Chapter Educator fill out
a
Request for Class and submit it to Melanie Geggie,
MEDIC FIRST AID®
Ohio District Coordinator.
