Welcome to GWRRA
Ohio District
Motorist Awareness Division

Welcome to the Ohio District Motorist Awareness web page. My name is Jill Becker and I am the Ohio District MAD Coordinator.  In June 2003, Mike Wright, President of GWRRA, announced the creation of Motorist Awareness Division of GWRRA.

The Motor Awareness Division and the Rider Education Division will be working more closely together in the future. While Rider Education is involved with motorcyclists training by providing a variety of training modules designed to help elevate the motor cycle rider and co-rider skills for riding a motorcycle.

The Motorist Awareness Coordinator will be focusing more on getting the information out to the general public rather than the motorcyclist. Our main objective is to make motorists more aware of the motorcycles that share the road with them. It is important for motorists to know that their actions affect the safety of motorcyclists. A motorcyclist may take an entirely different action for the same driving or highway situation that occurs than what a motorist will take. By educating the general public through distribution of literature and holding short seminars that show the public that a motorcyclist is just like them. We must take every opportunity that we get to help inform the general public about motorcycles. The more that we are able to get the information out, the safer we will make the sport of riding a motorcycle for all motorcyclists.

Chapter Directors will appoint their MAD Coordinators. MAD Coordinators are not officers, but will serve on the Chapter's support staff. National is recommending that Coordinators complete either the Leadership Training or Rider Education Division's seminar presenter curriculum. MAD Coordinators acquire and distribute MAD materials; develop MAD promotional opportunities; conduct seminars and report, quarterly, MAD activities for their respective position. I would like to see all of the Chapters in GWRRA to have a MAD Coordinator on their staff. If you are interested in being a Motorist Awareness Coordinator or a Motorist Liaison for your chapter be sure and contact your Chapter Director for more information concerning becoming a Motorist Awareness ambassador.
